Description

4 hours; 4 credits. An examination of leading works in political theory of the late 19th and 20th centuries. The central theme will be the attacks on and the reaffirmations of liberal democratic thought. Discussion of problems of order and violence, social and political revolutions, and democratic processes. Readings will be drawn from original works in political theory by writers such as Arendt, Dewey, Freud, Hayek, Lenin, Marx, and Sorel. Prerequisites: (POL 100 or POL 103) and any 200-level POL course
