The Politics of Evil

Description

The development of the concept of evil in modern political thought. The emphasis is on its role in defining a just political order. Readings are based on Voltaire, Nietzsche, Freud and the Critical Theorists. The purpose is to give perspective to the meaning of the malice and terror which define us today with a political understanding of what evil tells us and has told us about ourselves.Prerequisite: POL 100 or POL 103 and a 200-level course in Political Science.
