Advanced Tropical Ecology

Department(s)

Description

This course builds on a student’s previous experience of Tropical Ecology. This course, held in a highly biologically diverse mainland environment will emphasize differences in the tropical montane versus tropical lowland systems: differences in climatic regimes, habitat types, phenology of natural processes, and species to be found in the tropical mountains versus tropical lowland environments. It is a short, but intensive immersive course held at multiple sites: Guango Lodge, Yanayacu Lodge, Cabanas Isidro Lodge, Tena Tena, Amazoonico, these latter two sites accessed from a tropical lowland field station in Tena, providing opportunities for study of tropical montane and lowland environments and different cultures. Pre/Corequisites: Bio 217
