Description
(COM 412 / ENL 412) 4 hours; 4 credits. An introduction to the theory, history, and practice of modern newscasting. The class will also focus on the way that traditional broadcast is converging with digital video production and distribution in the creation of news. Special emphasis will be placed on preparing material for broadcast on radio, television, and online. Readings will explore the economic realities of broadcasting, legal sanctions, and social impact. Students will monitor newscasts, analyze them, and write copy suitable for broadcast. For students wishing to register for the course COM 100 is recommended. Prerequisite: COM/ENL 277 and COM 204
