Description
This course examines the historical and theoretical issues concerning the representation of African Americans in the media. Covering a wide range of media that includes the categories of film, television, print, and the Internet, this course considers matters of production, reception, and representation across both mainstream and independent media texts. The course will highlight the diverse nature of black images from the perspectives of social and political significance, stylistic influences, and cultural context. Both contemporary and classic works will be screened.
